Start by entering how many applications you have sent. Add your real numbers for the later stages to see where you are losing ground.
The calculator compares a step with a published rate only where a source measures that step, and each rate says who it describes. A screen is any step after application review and before the final round, such as a recruiter call, a hiring-manager call or an assessment, which is how Gem defines it. Rates vary by field, seniority and company, so none of them predicts your outcome. There is no "passed the ATS" step, because no source publishes an ATS pass rate.
A step is judged only when its published rate, applied to your number at the stage before it, would put at least 3 people through. Below that, the numbers are too small to tell a real gap from chance, so the step shows as too few to judge instead of a leak.

Frequently asked questions
How many job applications does it take to get an offer?+
There is no reliable single number for one person. Gem's 2026 Recruiting Benchmarks Report, built on over 165 million applications, 15 million candidates and 1.2 million hires in its customers' hiring pipelines from June 2021 to May 2025, found that 0.5% of applicants ultimately received offers, roughly one hire per 200 applications. Your own rate depends on your field, seniority and how well each application matches the role, which is why the calculator works from your numbers.
Where do most candidates get rejected?+
At the first step. In 2024, 6% of inbound applicants at Gem customers reached a first screen, a far lower rate than at any later step (Gem, 2025 Recruiting Benchmarks Report). Recruiters say that first rejection is rarely software reading your resume: in Enhancv's interviews with 25 US recruiters, 23 said rejections are manual or triggered only by eligibility filters such as work authorization or location, and only 2 said their ATS auto-rejects applicants for reasons other than knockout questions.
What conversion rate is normal at each stage?+
Published rates depend on who is measured. For inbound applicants at Gem customers in 2024, 6% of applications reached a first screen, 20% of screened candidates reached an onsite, and 35% of onsite candidates received an offer (Gem, 2025 Recruiting Benchmarks Report). Among 1,994,555 applications tracked by Huntr users from October 2024 to June 2026, 5.71% of those sent with a tailored resume were marked interviewed, against 3.09% without one (Huntr, Q2 2026 Job Search Trends Report).
Is this calculator accurate for my industry?+
The published rates are cross-industry. Gem's come from its customers' hiring pipelines and Huntr's from applications its users track, so neither predicts the outcome for one person. Treat them as reference points. The calculator's main job is to show your own conversion at each step, so you can see where you lose the most ground and fix that first.
